MURRAY WINS BIG IN THE INAUGURAL BST IMCA MODIFIED RACE AT "THE PARK"

By: Geoff Briggs

Byers, Colorado (April 11, 2010) --
Four-Time National IMCA Champion, David Murray Jr from Oberlin, KS. showed NASCAR star Ken Schrader the fast way around Colorado Motorsports Park for 25 laps Sunday afternoon. The inaugural IMCA sanctioned race brought in the Larry Shaw BST Modified tour and nearly 40 of its top drivers to do battle on a beautiful Sunday aftenoon at a beautiful facility. Lloyd Meeske held off serious challenges for the IMCA Stock Car win. In the IMCA Hobby Stock feature, it was a photo finish between Angel Munoz and Chris Cox with Munoz getting the win. In his first career race, Mitch Bolten took the Hornet main event, while Danny Concelman took the IMCA Northen Sport Mod feature and Andy Rogers took the Dwarf Car feature.

The Hornets were first out to do battle and Bolten jumped out to the early lead in his new ride. Bolten held off I-76 Speedway dominator John Symes for the win with Angelo Romero in third and Brandon Glenn in fourth.

Andy Rogers took command of the Dwarf Car main event Charley Drager hot on his tail. On lap 7, Mike Jones went for a spin in front of the leaders collecting Charlie Drager and Don Morrison. Drager and morrison got their spots back. John Schnieder was fourth on lap 8 with Frank Beck in fifth. Schneider got by Morrison for third on lap 10 and Drager spun for a lap 11 caution and he went off to the pits. Schneider was now on Rogers back bumber with Morrison, Beck, and Larry Stone following. Barb Drager spun for a lap 12 caution and Schenider challenged Rogers for the lead. Rogers took the high line from Schneider and Rogers claimed the win over Schneider, Morrison, Beck and Stone. Chris Tiffany spun on the last lap to drop several positions.

Angel Munoz took off from the pole of the IMCA Hobby Stock main event with Kraig Thomas in hot pursuit. The man on the move was Chris Cox from the back after missing his heat race with Power Steering issues. Cox moved into second on lap 4 and started reeling in Munoz, but needed a caution. Brian Galvin helped him out with that with a spun for a lap 7 caution. Under caution, Tripp Gaylord 's trunk popped open to add some fun to the race. On the restart Munoz jumped back out front, but Cox went to the bottom and took the lead. Coming for the checkered flag, the Power Steering bug came back for Cox and Munoz claimed the win with Cox, Thomas, Doug McFarland and Gaylord following.

Lloyd Meeske took off in the IMCA Stock Car feature with Jesse Taylor slowing to a stop on the track for a caution. Taylor pulled off and Rich Barnum entered the track after missing the start. On lap 2, Ike Weibke pitted under caution with a flat. Zach Alloway moved into second and chased down Meeske when Alloway pushed up and spun to avoid hitting Meeske and was clipped by Barnum. Barnum hit Alloway then hit the wall for a caution. Meeske led the rest of the way for the win over Casey Woken, rookie Mike Kennedy, Ike Weibke and Alloway.

Danny Concelman led early in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature with Dan Vavrina, and Brandon Williams in tow. Lance Brandt spun for a caution with Concelman leading Vavrina, Williams, Ryan Gaylord and Gordon Shultz. Williams got pushed back on the restart and fought back by Shultz as Gaylord moved into second and chased down Concelman. Concelman had too much and took the win over Gaylord, Vavrina, Williams and Shultz.

It was time to rumble the crown with the 26-car IMCA/BST Modified main event. Before the race even got started, Dominic Ursetta was upside down in turn 1. When the green flag flew, David Murray Jr shot to the lead with Eddie Belec Jr, Roy Speilman, Ken Schrader and Beau Speicher following. Joe Mullins spun on lap 4 and was hit by Brad Boyer who had no place to go. Speilman and Schrader were second and third on lap 4, then DJ Banks slowed for a lap 5 caution. Bobby Durand's door departed his machine for a lap 9 caution and Murray now led Schrader, Speilman, Belec and Will Brack. By the half-way point, Jeremy Frenier was fourth ahead of Brack. Schrader gave Murray all he had, but Murray was the top dog of the day. Schrader hung on for second over Speilman, Frenier, and Brack.

A Sincere “Thank you” from both Jerry Kendall and Joe Bellm to all of those who helped to make this possible. And a pretty cool quote by Kenny Schrader, who has been all over the Country racing coast to coast, racing over a 100 times a year said, "You all have something special here, a one of a kind facility, I look for big things to come."
Next Colorado Motorsports Park event is Sunday, April 18th at 2:00pm.
